When you set out to achieve something, the only thing you think about is achieving whatever is you set out to accomplish. You don’t think about the hurdles or obstacles that you’ll face before you reach that goal, you just think about that goal.
When I made my website, I had 3 achievable goals that I wanted to reach. First, I was going to talk about Brazil losing 7-1 to Germany, then I was going to hit 10,000 views by the end of that summer and then, boldly, reach 100,000 views.
I never anticipated that I was going to become this blogger or writer or that, I’d still be doing this. I mean, I started a novel, wrote 42 pages, 10,000 words and I stopped. I usually get obsessed with something, really fall in love with it and get bored. I guess, I just wanted to see how far I can take this, so I never stopped.
I then wrote that Brazil article, reached 10,000 views by the end of that summer, than I hit 100,000 views and I kept going. I hit 200,000 views, 250,000 views, 300,000 views, 400,000 views and now I’m on pace for 500,000 views by April of 2016. I’ve written a lot of articles, I’ve posted a lot of songs, I’ve published sports and other articles, and it’s been a crazy ride. Last October, I set out things that I wanted to accomplish from my website.
It’s now December, well end of December and I’ve achieved all of these things. Which, I never thought I’d do in only 17 months. I’ve received recognition for my hard work by meeting someone, who I look up to and I think is one of the greatest music writers of our time and told me, I was on the path to something. This is still crazy to me.
What I achieved this year, in terms of traffic, is out of this world, considering how I thought the year was going to pan out.
I currently have 420,000 views by December 2015. In January 2015, I thought I was going to have 200,000 views by February 2016. It’s just been a crazy ride. I’ve even been paid for my website through advertisements, which is insane, but more importantly and the reason why, I’m writing this reflection is that, I’m officially a music editorial intern for creative agency; Rosy&Gray.
I somehow turned this blog or website, or this platform that I can be creative in, into a career. And it’s something that I genuinely love. And this isn’t me saying that, because I found an internship placement, that I’ll stop blogging for this site, this is just an important reflection.
A reflection in that, If I can do this, you can too. Whatever it is that you want to do, you can do it too. I used the internet to my advantage and created something from nothing. Thank you for continuing to click the site and Hey! 500,000 views by April! There’s still work to do.
