Lorde Is The Type Of Artist We Need In The Music World

check out the post below

Lorde’s debut album Pure Heroine came out on September 27th 2013. Royals dominated the charts, dominated the radio, everyone heard the song. She would even go on to win two Grammy’s. It isn’t about that though. It isn’t about how famous she got, how many accolades she has received. It’s about the music. It’s about the lyrics.

Lorde’s debut album is filled with important lyrics about the world . Now, I’m 19, but I was 18 when, I first heard about her. She would have been 16-17 around 2013. I’m too lazy to run the simple math. Reading her lyrics of her songs and truly understanding the songs have made me realize how important the album is.

I’ll give you a song by song explanation on how, I see it. This will show  you why she is the type of artist we need in the music world. I feel like explaining the album song by song will give you a better understanding of why it’s so important. Shout out to Rap Genius for the lyrics.

People around us always want to talk about gossip and nothing really important. Most people focus on talking about materialist things, but not talking about anything really of value. Lorde goes on to say, she’s making music because that’s what she loves to do. Then she goes on about time. Which is a very important thing to talk about because people waste a lot to time.

Time is something we take for granted and for Lorde to already understand that sentiment, that’s pretty big. Big in a sense that a lot of teenagers, don’t think that way. She goes on to say buying materialistic things is something she will do, but she will never be absorbed by it. All of what she says on her album, I’ve realized, it’s something that, i’ve been writing about on website in my Life Talk section. All in all, very important verse on the opener of the album.

In this song, Lorde is talking about how she wants to spend her time wisely with her boyfriend. That’s the surface of the song, but there is more depth here. That’s the thing about art, it can be interrupting any type of way. We spend a lot of time wasted on nothing really. Spending time with a love one or a family member or even a friend is great. That is time well spent, instead of time wasted.

We are always killing time or wasting time, So Lorde is saying can she kill time in a good way. Again, this is actually an important thing to be singing about. Backed by incredible production in a minimalist approach, her incredible singing takes centre stage and what she is singing about is of actually value.

A lot of songs today are focused on materialistic things. Though, it kind of always has been. Rap in particular gives off this glamour. Not to only talk about rap, because other genres focus on materialism as well. Lorde is saying that she isn’t about all of that. Its better to dream and think. It’s incredible to think that she got all the praise and attention for her album when she is singing about this. Lorde is singing and talking about something important instead of just singing about all of materialistic things.

This is Lorde talking about wanting her innocence back. This will always be the problem when you start realizing you’re becoming old. When you really grow up, you start to lose the child in you and all the dreams and aspirations you once had fade away. Lorde is afraid of that, which everybody our age is. I’m 19 and I know the feeling. She’s even younger than me and she’s thinking about that too.

I think, it’s a year difference, but still. This is the type of music, I want to be listening to. Music carries a feel and songs become timeless when the feeling from the song never gets old. Things Lorde sings about are things that we will always be thinking about. That is timeless music.

We are influenced by the things we partake in. If we like a certain artist, the ideals of this artist will influence what we do. Listening to Lorde will make you really think about life, but listening to meaningless music, won’t do anything for you. The media shapes are worldview and people just play along with the world around us. People are just followers, but if people step out of that, then they aren’t. Its kind of like the analogy of the cave by Plato. People who don’t think and follow the media live in a cave. Lorde understands the world around her and values the real things instead of the fake things. As an artist in her age, it’s incredible. We are filled with so much crap in music, it’s refreshing someone like her is getting attention and praise.

Lorde is rejecting the ideals of mainstream pop culture. Club bangers and songs with no real substance. Now that she’s getting older, she’s realized all of this and in realizing the world, she has lost her innocence. I think, its great that she has found success because of her pure talent. Not based on how she looks.

Like, the goal of my website is to make people realize the life around themselves and to start thinking for themselves. To understand real values instead of fake values. And it’s amazing that Lorde who has a platform to reach millions of people is singing about a similar message.

As much as Lorde talks about her disdain for the fame part of her life, she tells herself, you know you love this. It’s the constant battle every artist faces. You want to say just real and never change your ideals, but the lux is luxurious. It’s okay to indulge in the fame, but it’s important to stay normal.

You may come to hate all the attention, the fame and everything that comes with it, but sometimes you’ll love it. That’s what Lorde is saying and it’s true for any case. What did Kanye West Say? Hard to stay humble when you stuntin on a jumbotron

This song is about Lorde’s state of mind. Regardless of how she’s living, she’s still the same and normal. And that all the work she is doing is because she loves it. She also wants to be number one. Being number one can bring more fame and attention, but she knows that’s of no value. She just wants the recognition and the love that the music brings. Just incredibly real from someone around my age.

Lorde again, keeping with the theme of the album, continues to state her separation from the mainstream. Celebrities come off as perfect on the surface, but on the depth level, they aren’t perfect. They are flawed and human just like everyone else. You can try to be fake and give off the illusion of perfection, but you’re not being real. Side

Sidenote : This album is still beyond incredible.

The album starts off with “Don’t you think it’s boring how people talk” and it ends with “let ‘em talk”. This one sentence explains the entire album. Lorde with her own life experiences, tries to talk about the world around her. How people think and act and how the fame she will get won’t change her.

She might fight with herself, thinking she loves the fame, but deep down, she knows who she is. This album is incredible because the production is so simple and her singing and talent take over. While people study and work, creative people think about how life works. How people operate and think. It’s that difference that makes the distinction between creatives and other people.

Lorde’s album is incredible, it touches upon all the truths in the world and it’s everything we need in music. Lorde is the type of artist we need in the music world. Maybe she will eventually change and sing about other stuff, but this album is forever.
