This is my opinion, but come on, he really is the greatest.
Introduction
Every time, I think about Michael Jackson I get pretty sad. So, when I’m writing this right now, I’m pretty sad. Happy, but i’m pretty sad. How the media treated Michael Jackson will always hurt me. I was thinking of doing reasons why Michael Jackson is the greatest, but that seems dumb to me. Michael Jackson simply is the greatest entertainer and greatest artist of all time.
What he did in his life has impacted and influenced the entire world. When news broke that he passed away, the entire world wept. The internet shut down. I mean literally, the internet shut down. Google thought their search engine traffic was being attacked because the entire world was googling Michael Jackson. 15% of all tweets when news was announced were about Michael Jackson. His death made the world stop. From Russia to Canada to Japan to Belgium to USA, the entire world stopped.
Where I Was When I Heard The News
I know exactly where I was when I found out the news. I was playing soccer in the park and a few kids ran by and I overheard their conversation. Now Brazil had just beat South Africa in the 2009 Confederation Cup and I’m a huge Brazil fan, so I was in a pretty happy mood. Yet, in a blink of an eye my happiness was gone. Those kids said Michael Jackson just died. I thought they were joking, so I didn’t believe them at first. I ran towards my sister and said hey what’s happening. She said Michael Jackson passed away. Again, I couldn’t believe it, so she handed me the phone and I called my mom.
My mom told me It was true and it was all over CNN. My heart literally dropped. Michael was finally going to comeback and show the world his greatness again. This is it! Was to be his comeback. I was so happy for him. Then this happens. Its one of the worst feelings I ever felt.
Now everyone who made jokes against him, now everyone who made fun of him was tweeting “RIP Michael Jackson”. The world had changed its entire outlook on him now. He was now the King instead of a joke. Him dying and seeing the world change like that in a blink of an eye hurt me a lot. It still hurts me.
Now imagine millions of people all around the world having the same sadness as I did and still do. People know where they were when 9/11 was happening, people know where they were when John Lennon passed and every other huge event/artist people knew where they were. Michael Jackson death and his impact is to that scale. That’s how big of an impact Michael had. The world stopped when he died.

Michael Jackson’s music is timeless. As, I’m listening to Billie Jean as, I’m typing this. A song that came out in 1982. I was born in 1995. Thank god, I was born to appreciate him when he was alive. Here is a song by Michael that made me truly understand him. Just really listen to the song.
Michael gave us classics. Michael gave us timeless classics. Heal The World, Man In The Mirror, Black or White, Earth Song, They Don’t Care About Us. All of these songs are powerful and filled with important lyrics. Michael co-wrote We Are The World. He gave us Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible and so much more.
All of this while the media kept attacking him until his death, then he was a king. Michael was always king and will forever be the king. I don’t even need to explain his influence in the music video world, the video below explains it all.

And really this list can go on and on and on and on. Some of the artist above would go on to influence other artists. Most notably Kanye West being a huge influence on Drake. Michael Jackson telling Kanye West he could sing, gave him the confidence to create 808s and heartbreak. I already wrote how influential that album was.
Conclusion
Michael Jackson entertained the world for 45 years. Beginning from 1964 till ending tragically with his death in 2009. For four decades, Michael entertained and changed the world around him. Another king, Elvis was active for 24 years until his life was cut short in 1977. Kurt Cobain was only active for 12 years. Michael lived a really long life opposed to other huge influencers. Keeping this in mind because it’s a huge reason why he was able to influence so many people all around the world.
Breaking down the colour barrier, being on MTV, changing the landscape of music videos, the way he dressed, the music he gave the world, his music incorporating many different genres, his dancing. Michael Jackson simply put is the greatest artist/entertainer of all time.
There will never be another Michael.
