With the report that the NHL is coming close to finalizing some sort of deal to expand in Las Vegas, I decided to write about this. Quebec City hosted two different teams; The Quebec Bulldogs and the team everyone knows The Quebec Nordiques. The Nordiques were moved to Denver and became The Colorado Avalanche in 1995. Since then, Quebec City has no team.
Here is some Tweets about the potential Las Vegas expansion and Quebec City.
Las Vegas would be a pretty crazy place for hockey, but the NHL needs a team in Quebec City again. There needs to be some rivalry in Quebec against the Canadians and Nordiques. It took a very long time for the NHL to give Winnipeg a team again and it’s seem as though America is getting a team again without that much problem. Though it only a report at this point, nothing official.
Reportedly, the President and Founder of the KHL Alexander Medvedev was interesting in buying a team for Quebec City and found it strange they didn’t have a team, but NHL Representatives said they would never allow that to happen
Quebec City has built a new arena that will be officially opened in 2015. Maybe in the near future, it will host some real NHL games.
UPDATE
According to Sports Illustrated and Howard Bloom, Quebec City could be getting a team by 2017.
