Life is all about perspective. Enjoy.
Before we begin with the present day with the Ice Bucket Challenge, I’m going to take it back to a few other viral things. Neknominations and the cinnamon challenge.
The Cinnamon Challenge
The objective of the challenge is to film oneself swallowing a spoonful of ground cinnamon in under 60 seconds without drinking anything. Then you would upload yourself doing this. People are incredibly stupid. Here is a list of health risks. I bet you somewhere in the world criticized somebody for smoking and told them the health risk and did this challenge.
– throat irritation
– breathing difficulties
– risk of pneumonia
– collapsed lung.
Imagine people knowing this can all happen and even have a collapsed lung and still do this challenge. Now you wonder to yourself why people would do this? The answer is pretty simple. People want to be doing what everyone else is doing. That is what we call trends. Things become trendy because a lot of people start doing it. This challenge isn’t trendy anymore, but when it was everyone was doing it. My perspective on life for this would be to never do anything anyone else is doing. Especially If it can seriously harm you. If you did this challenge, I’m sorry but you’re an idiot. Change your perspective on life
Basically, the person has to drink alcohol and upload the footage online. Then you do the challenge and challenge other people and they have 24 hours to do the same. Classic peer pressure. This one is stupid and hilarious for two reasons. One reason being that the people who did the challenge were clearly in some sort of discomfort in the videos. It is reported that five people have died doing this. Second reason being some people decided against doing the challenge and instead gave food to a homeless person. Let me explain why this is hilarious to me.
Let me break this down for you, if you did the second reason, showing people you gave food to a homeless person, this doesn’t give you a gold star. Being the type of person to help a homeless person without showing it to people is a sign of a good person. Your intensions may have been good, but It just looks like you wanted likes or attention for doing it.
Telling people they have only 24 hours to do the challenge and if they don’t they are cowards is classic peer pressure. Same people who preach anti-bullying I’ve seen call people cowards. Hilarious world we live in. My perspective on this is, If you want to do the challenge great, but only do it If you want to do it and be safe. If you are ever peer pressured into doing something, just believe in yourself and never give in.
Ice Bucket Challenge
The next big viral sensation that is happening right now. Let me break this down for you, this challenge is a celebrity thing. They have the money to donate. They do the challenge and they donate. They are the ones who are making a difference. If you are doing the challenge and you are not a celebrity, what are you doing with your life? You have probably done the cinnamon challenge or the neknomination. If you haven’t and this is your first challenge, really ask yourself why you did it. If i would address you, I would say you are a trend follower and you need to address that. Some people that I’ve seen who aren’t celebrities have shown they donated. That is great and awesome, but you don’t need to show people you donated.
Going back to the picture that I posted that is from new NBA Player Joel Embiid in the front of the page. People who aren’t celebrities are wasting enough water in this challenge. Not only in Africa, many places around the world do not have the luxury of doing this challenge. I know I’m far from an activist or anyone who seriously feels passionate about that, but seeing that picture made me write this. Hopefully, someone reading will think twice about jumping into the next trend. Its time to have a better perspective on life. Only you can change that. If you are like me and has never jumped on any of these trends I personally salute you. You are real.
