My Top 5

#5

Say what’s real

One of my favourite songs off of ‘So Far Gone’, Drake was really on one when he spit this. His flow  is just so perfect, it’s not crazy or over the top, it’s just perfectly done. He spits effortlessly, it feels over the beat. It’s just so damn honest and so amazing.

Best Lines

“ 24 hours from greatness, i’m that close ”

“ Don’t forget the moment you began to doubt, transitioning from fitting in to standing out”

“ Watching Hov show, embarrassed to pull my camera out ”

“ Everybody talks and everybody listens, but somehow the truth always comes up missing”

“ His whole part about his phantom and his mom being embarrassed “

Too Much

Coming from his most recent album ; ‘Nothing Was The Same’, this song is just out of this world amazing. Drake getting Sampha on the track is pure genius. Drake is amazing when he is reflecting and being honest. This track had to be in the top five because i loved when he performed it during WYLAT in Toronto and because this song has timeless potential written all over it.

Best Lines

“ I’m quite with it , i just ride with it. Moment i stop having fun with it, ill be done with it”

“ Heard once in dire times when you need a sign, that’s when they appear // His whole thing on his mom and dad and family life “

Over my dead body

First track off of ‘Take Care’ and what a start to the album. Drake can seem arrogant but he really is spitting the truth. Drake really dominated rap the year before this album dropped. This song is such a crazy song to begin the album cause it could have been the best. This song would begin the classic that is known as Take Care and lands at number three.

Best Lines

“ I think i killed everybody in the game last year”

“ Jealousy is just love and hate at the same time”

“ Don’t make me break your Kevin Hart, boy”

#2

Lord Knows

Should be number one but number one is the greatest thing i’ve heard a rapper spit in my lifetime. That’s a huge boost but number one is my favourite Drake song of all time. Don’t think he will ever make a better song like it. Lord Knows is a song Drake murdered. He killed it, destroyed it, he just went crazy. It is already a timeless track to me, I can see it being looked at in a few years and people will say it’s a classic on a classic album.

Best Lines

“I know of all the things that i hear they be poking fun at, never the flow though, they know i run that”

“I’m hearing all of the jokes, i know that they tryna push me, i know that shown emotion don’t ever mean i’m a pussy. Know that i don’t make music for niggas who don’t get pussy, so those are the ones i count on to diss me or overlook me”

“I’m more concerned with niggas thinking about Christmas in August. Do anything to buy gifts for their daughters”

“They take the greats from the past and compare us, I wonder if they’d ever survive in this era. In a time where its recreation to pull all your skeletons out the closet like Halloween decorations”

“ If all I hear is me, then who should I be afraid of?”

The Resistance

I used a lyric from this song in my high school year book. Shout out York Mills CI. Drake gave out information on this song that just hit you emotionally and he would continue to do in his career. ‘Thank Me Later’ is an album, I think people overlook but to me it was absolutely amazing. This song showed me that Drake would become one of the greats and Toronto would finally have their star and Drake has since made me proud to be from Toronto.

Best Lines

“I avoided the Coke game and went with Sprite instead”

“I’m trying to do better than good enough”

“You promised me you would never change”

“What am I afraid of? This is suppose to be what dreams are made of”

“The entire 2nd verse”

“The part about the robbery”

Number 3 on this list was between Over My Dead Body and The Ride and you know which one I picked.  The Ride on Take Care is still a classic though.
